ECard EMail Scam alert

This is a ecard scam that is currently making the rounds by email. I’m sure most of us have received an alert from places like BlueMountain or HallMark telling us that someone had sent a ecard and the ecard could be viewed by clicking on a link in the email. If memeory serves me correctly that notice always gives the name of the person sending the ecard.

One difference in these scam emails from a legitament email you would receive from a online getting card provider is that they do not give the name of the sender of the ecard. Instead they will state the sender is a friend or classmate.

There seems to be two variants of this ecard scam. One is a phishing scheme where the official looking (but fake) site you land on will try to get some personal information from you. The other variant will send you to a site that attempts to down load malware to you PC.

Here is an example of a email supposedly from Postcard.com. Don’t click on the any of the links.

My best advice is don’t click on links in email.

  3. Hi,
Yes you are right : “One difference in these scam emails from a legitament email you would receive from a online getting card provider is that they do not give the name of the sender of the ecard. Instead they will state the sender is a friend or classmate.” because they send more then 50-100k emails once.
