ICS Monitoring Team Email Virus

The email appears to be from the ICS Monitoring Team. The currant subject is “Your internet access is going to get suspended”. Basically the email says that you have been caught downloading illegal software, or music. The email states that if you do not quit your ISP will suspend your services.

The email contains a zip file attachment with more information. Once the attachment is opened your PC will likely be infected. This one is new, and a lot of virus software will not detect the virus at this time.

I don’t know that you can ever completly stop all spam. There are steps you can take to minimize the spam.

Is the email address you use related to your own website or is coming from your Internet Service Provider?

Either way never give out your email address unless the person requesting it has a priviacy policy, and they tell you what they are going to use your email address fo.

If a email you spam never click on the links in the message. Don’t even click on a unsubscribe link. In many cases you are only verifying that the email address is valid.

What you are talking about would be illegal.

Do you have Spam Assassin installed on your server. A lot of the better webhost have the software installed . If yours does not you should be able to install spam assassin yourself.

With spam assassin you can blacklist domains so that you will not receive any email from that domain.

You can solve your problem with spam assassin.

You also need to take some preventive measures.

I would use a special email address for whois information. A lot of spammers are getting email addresses from whois information.

If you have a email address posted on your site, only use an encoded address. There is a link to more information about encoders below the Search Box.

I also block known email scrappers using a .htaccess file.

If you have additional questions feel free to ask.

  9. Connie says:

I was referring to your comment about having their site hacked to remove your email address from their data base. I might have misunderstood what you meant by that comment.
