Blocked User Agents

Filed under: SEO General — Connie @ 6:12 pm

I just added a page that list over 400 user agents that many web masters block for one reason or another. Every user agent listed is not necessarily a bad user agent. Some are from from small legitimate SEs. I think the bulk are from scrappers, and email harvesters.

ECard EMail Scam alert

This is a ecard scam that is currently making the rounds by email. I’m sure most of us have received an alert from places like BlueMountain or HallMark telling us that someone had sent a ecard and the ecard could be viewed by clicking on a link in the email. If memeory serves me correctly that notice always gives the name of the person sending the ecard. (more…)

Another UPS Email Scam

This is a message I received July 14th. It appears to be from UPS. Actually I don’t remember reading the email. It should have raised some questions at the time. I came across it yesterday when researching some information for yesterdays post UPS Trojan/Virus is Real.

In the article I posted yesterday the scam email was trying to get you to open an attachment. This one is an attempt to get the user to click on links.

CNN Email Scam

A few days ago a email surfaced that appeared to be from CNN. Initially the subject of the email was “CNN .com Daily Top 10”. Then the subject started changing. Some of the known new subjects are “CNN Alerts: My Custom Alert”. The email was also contained some snippets of legitimate stories, with a link to click to read the full story.

UPS Trojan/Virus is Real

Around the middle of July a scam email started hitting in boxes that appeared to be from UPS. There was a UPS tracking number in the subject which is typical of email that UPS sends out in regard to a shipment.

The fraudulent email makes the receiver believe that a UPS shipment could not be delivered. It then advises you to open an attachment and fill out a forum in order to receive your shipment.

John Bates Blue mordesigns

Filed under: Scams — Connie @ 12:19 am

This has been a difficult article to write. I published it a few days ago and then took the article off line temporarily. The article has been edited. John Bates (aka Blue) owns and operates mordesigns. I have known John for years through IHY forums. He has been one of the most honest people I have known in the SEO industry. Sadly things happen and people change.

What Makes a Website Perfect

Filed under: Articles by Irony — Irony @ 12:05 am

As the web grows older, standards applied to the quality of your web presence (especially if you are into business) get enhanced and polished. W3C (The World Wide Web Consortium) keeps issuing more standards and tweaking old ones, and following those tweaks to a date is not an easy task in itself.

Consumer Rights

Filed under: Scams — Connie @ 2:55 pm

Do Consumers have Rights?  Of course they do.  There are a few things that prompted this post.  Recently Kimberly Bock (aka spostareduro in some circles) July 25 to be more precise wrote a blog  article with the title  “Consumer Rights Violated By SEOs and Marketers”.  Believe me the article is worth reading.
