Spam-Whackers got hacked last Sunday or Monday.  I haven’t been able to determine who the hacker was but I have some leads.  I’m 99% certain it was a comment spammer.

Before jumping to conclusions this happened with the latest update from WP. Any site can be hacked.

I don’t know for sure, but it is probably a spam email to download a Trojan on the PC of the unfortunate users who click on the links.

I do know the email was spam.  The address it was went to only receives spam email.

I couldn’t find any information about this particular email, so I’m guessing it is new.  However I did find a report of a similar email for a “Phishing Scam” in a NYU (New York University) security report from 2006.  You can read about that at in the official NYU  publication.

Never click on links in “Spam Email:.  In fact don’t even click on links in email from institutions you trust, such as a bank or credit card company.

If you need to check out a site use your bookmarks.

Haiti Earthquake Disaster

Filed under: SEO General — Connie @ 6:58 pm

I’m  sure that most of the world has heard about the devastating earthquack that has hit Haiti.

Though many countries have pledged aid, it is also vital that  private organizations contribute to the cause.

Unfortunately a disaster likes this really brings the scum of the earth out of the wood works.  They set up websites to solicit contributions for the disaster but they only pocket the money.

Legiament organiations really need donations at a time like this, but how can you ensure that your dollars go to the aid of the people who are the victoms of the disaster?

First ignore unsolicited emails requesting aid.  Do not click on links in those email. The low life scammers will build websites that look very conviencing.

The BBB (Better Business Bureau) has a list of organizations that they have checked out.  The BBB list of approved charities.

You can also contribute $10.00 through your cell phone provider.  The $10.00 will go to the Red Cross and the amount will be added to your cell phone bill.  To make a contribution through your cell phone provider text “Haiti” to 90999.

You don’t have to give a lot.  These originations thrive on donations of $5.00, $10.00, $15.00 etc.

Give what you can.  Make sure you give through a legitimate site.

Blocked User Agents

Filed under: SEO General — Connie @ 6:12 pm

I just added a page that list over 400 user agents that many web masters block for one reason or another. Every user agent listed is not necessarily a bad user agent. Some are from from small legitimate SEs. I think the bulk are from scrappers, and email harvesters.

ECard EMail Scam alert

This is a ecard scam that is currently making the rounds by email. I’m sure most of us have received an alert from places like BlueMountain or HallMark telling us that someone had sent a ecard and the ecard could be viewed by clicking on a link in the email. If memeory serves me correctly that notice always gives the name of the person sending the ecard. (more…)
